These days "conservation" is the buzzword. Ecological destruction is taking place on a global scale. The preservation of the environment postulates the observance of certain imperatives. The inculcation of conservation-consciousness into the minds of everyone, young and old, is one these. Another is the preservation of all resources, human and natural. Ideally, in the implementation of any physical development, these resources should complement, and not be opposed to one another. A corollary is that before embarking on any project, a proper analysis and assessment of any consequential damages to the environment, should be conducted. In other words, an holistic approach should be minimum requirement. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMMING: Vandag is "bewaring" die slagwoord. Ekologiese vernietiging vind wêreldwyd plaas. Die bewaring van die omgewing verondestel dat sekere imperatiewe behou word. Die inprenting van 'n bewarings-bewussyn by elkeen, jonk en oud is één hiervan. Nog 'n imperatief is die bewaring van alle hulpbronne, menslik en natuurlik. In die implementering van enige fisiese ontwikkeling, sal hierdie hulpbronne, ideaal gesien, mekaar aanvul eerder as teenstaan. 'n Uitvloeisel hiervan is dat voor enige projek aangepak word, daar 'n deeglike ondersoek na, en beoordeling van enige daaruit onstaande skae aan die omgewing plaas sal vind. Met ander woorde, 'n holistiese benadering behoort 'n minimum vereiste te wees.
