AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Kaya Mandi - aangename tuiste. Dit is die naam wat gegee is aan die naturellelokasie in die stadsgebied van Stellenbosch. Met hierdie naam word inderdaad geimpliseer dat die lokasie 'n tuiste vir die naturelle is en ook 'n aangename een. Dit is veral interessant dat hierdie residentiële woonbuurt vir die Bantoe in 'n stadsarea wat beskou word as die setel van Afrikanertradisie bekend moet staan by wyse van 'n Bantoe (Xhosa) benaming. Waarskynlik kan dit beskou word as simbolies van die proses wat 'n Suid-Afrika besig is om te ontvou. Die skeiding tussen Blank en Bantoe bestaan nie meer soos in die verlede nie. 'n Vreemde taalgroep het nou onstaan in die blanke samelewing waar daar inderdaad vir hom 'n "aangename tuiste" geskep word. En vir die Bantoe self beteken hierdie aangename tuiste 'n verbreking van sy tradisionele stambande en 'n verandering van lewenspatroon waarin die ou tradisioneele kultuur en die eie aard van die Bantoe, deur 'n proses van akkulturasie diepgaande veranderings belewe. Hoewel die bestaan van Kaya Mandi en die aanwesigheid van die vreemde bevolkingsgroep wat daarin woon, by almal bekend is, is dit tog opmerklik hoe min kennis daar inderdaad in die algemeen bestaan omtrent die omstandighede en lewenspatroon in die lokasie self. Daar is dan ook in werklikheid baie min kontak, behalwe op die werkterrein, tussen die blanke inwoners van Stellenbosch en die Bantoe inwoners van Kaya Mandi.
