D.) -- University of Stellenbosch, 1992. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to establish an in vitro system of Paulownia species for organogenesis and embryogenesis in tissue and callus cultures, cell suspension and cell culture, protoplast isolation and culture. Three species viz. P.fortunei, P.kawakamii, P.tomentosa which represent three sections of Paulownia genus were selected. P.taiwaniana was also included for comparative purposes since many in vitro studies have been done on this species.
