Dept. of Chemistry and Polymer Science. Separation (Technology) Membranes (Technology) Membrane separation Dissertations -- Polymer science Thesis (M. Sc.) -- University of Stellenbosch, 1992. Flat-sheet membranes were made from solutions of varying polysulphone (PSU) concentration in 1 : 1 (molar ratio) propionic acid (PA) N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP). Hollow-fibre membranes were made from solutions containing various low PSU concentrations (<37% by mass), NMP and each of the acids PA. acetic acid (AcA), adipic acid (AA) and succinic acid (SA) In low Lewis acid base ratios The effects of polymer concentration, acid/base pair and ratio, membrane structure and temperatures of the polymer spinning solution and coagulation baths on the gas-separation properties of the hollow-fibres were investigated. Thee effect of the temperature at which the membranes were dried on the gas-separation properties of the membranes made from these solutions, was also investigated.
