ENGLISH SUMMARY: The aim of the study was to obtain a profile of juvenile rapists. A review of the literature concerning juvenile delinquency, the juvenile delinquent, rape and the rapist was undertaken. Emphasis was placed on a few factors which correlate with juvenile delinquency: gender, the family as factor, morality, social factors and scholastic factors. Factors which could contribute to rape were investigated. and characteristics of the rapist, as well as rapists were researched. The age types of A biographical study which included twenty-four subjects was undertaken. Comprehensive reports drawn up by social workers, school psychologists and Magistrates courts were used to comply information. Findings from the literature indicated that rapists are mostly below the age of 20 years. Findings from available biographical sources indicated that the subjects in this study were mostly below the age of 16 years. Findings from the literature indicated that the social, socio-economical, educational and psychological dimensions of rapists are in many ways adverse and defective. Indications from the findings of the biographical study were that the subjects function against the background of a low educational level (standard 1), poor socio-economic and social conditions (poverty, alcohol abuse and drug abuse), disfunctional family functioning and the identification with friends who maintain socially unacceptable behaviour (criminal activities, drug abuse and absence from school). This study is descriptive, rather than explanatory. In future research attention could be given to the developmental history and personality dynamics of juvenile rapists. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van die ondersoek was om 'n profielbeeld van jeugdige verkragters te verkry. 'n Literatuurstudie oor jeugmisdaad, die jeugmisdadiger, verkragting en die verkragter is onderneem. Daar is onder meer gefokus op enkele faktore wat met jeugmisdaad korreleer, naamlik geslag, die gesin as faktor, moraliteit, maatskaplike faktore en skolastiese faktore. Faktore wat tot verkragting kan aanleiding gee, is ondersoek. Die ouderdom en kenmerke van die verkragter, sowel as tipes verkragters, is ook bestudeer. 'n Biografiese ondersoek van vier-en-twintig jeugdige verkragters is gedoen. omvattende verslae van proefbeamptes, maatskaplike werkers, hofverslae en verslae van skoolsielkundiges is as databronne vir die biografiese ondersoek gebruik. Die bevindinge uit die literatuurondersoek het aangedui dat verkragters oorwegend onder die ouderdom van 20 jaar is uit die beskikbare biografiese inligting het geblyk dat die proefpersone hoofsaaklik- onder die ouderdom van 16 jaar is. Bevindinge uit die literatuur dui daarop dat die sosiale, maatskaplike, ekonomiese, opvoedkundige en sielkundige dimensies van verkragters in vele opsigte ongunstig en gebrekkig is. In die biografiese ondersoek is bevind dat die proefpersone funksioneer teen die agtergrond van 'n lae onderwyspeil (Standerd I), swak sosio-ekonomiese en maatskaplike omstandighede (armoede, alkohol- en dwelmmisbruik), disfunksionele gesinsfunksionering en dat geidentifiseer word met vriende wat onaanvaarbare sosiale gedrag handhaaf (misdaadbetrokkenheid, dwelmmisbruik en skoolversuim) .
