ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The financial circumstances of the recipients of relief and their spatial distribution over Capetown are first dealt with. Following this chiefly descriptive portion of the study an analysis is made of certain factors and conditions in order to discover their causal connection with dependency. This analytical portion of the study is concerned with seven groups of data, viz, the places of origin and previous residence ; such personal factors as age, sex and race ; family conditions (including marital status, size of family or household, etc.) ; housing and environment ; health conditions ; educational and occupational qualifications of the dependents and their children ; and the influence of unemployment.
