Includes bibliographical references. The primary concern that prompted this thesis is the growing separation between product and source in contemporary culture . The current consumer culture gives little thought to where products come from. This phenomenon is prevalent within architecture too; much contemporary work is purely image-based, following ever-changing international trends which often result in buildings which are inappropriate to their context. Basic principles of how a building relates to its site and surrounds have been negated in a time of increasing commercial and economic pressure. 2014-08-05T11:11:38Z 2014-08-05T11:11:38Z 2012 Master Thesis Masters Master of Architecture http://hdl.handle.net/11427/5989 eng application/pdf School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment University of Cape Town
