This thesis explores the way in which the book of Isaiah portrays the relationship between ritual-religious practices and ethical-moral conduct. Particular attention is given to the ritual dimensions of the Sabbath, fasting, and prayer, employing a canonical approach. First, the relevant passages in Isaiah are examined and summarised, after which their significance is considered within the broader context of both the Old and the New Testaments. Finally, implications for Christian prac-tice are briefly discussed. Both the book of Isaiah and the Bible as a whole include texts that appear to offer contrasting perspectives on the role of worship and ritual. In this regard, some interpreters emphasise a tension between worship and ethical behaviour, viewing this as a contradiction within the biblical canon. This study seeks to investigate this relationship and to demonstrate that it need not be understood as a contradiction. A central question underlying this investigation is: How can sinful humanity dwell in the presence of a holy God? Accordingly, key concepts such as sin, purity, and law are examined within the scope of this research.
