AFRIKAANS: Hoofstuk 1 is ‘n beskrywing van die navorsingsbehoefte- en ontwerp van die studie soos dit fokus op die navorsingstema met spesifieke verwysing na die verwerking van die gevoelsbelewing van skuld en skande. Die behoefte aan wetenskaplike besinning van die onderwerp, is verken deur ‘n beskrywing van die toepaslike inligting soos gevind in Die Kerkorde (2007), bestaande literatuur, die omvang van die behoefte en die kerklike tughandeling as proses. Hierna is die navorsingsontwerp deur persoonlike ervaring, doel en vraagstellings, afbakening, navorsingsmetodologie en proses, beskryf. In hoofstuk 2 is ‘n literatuurverkenning van gevoelsbelewing met spesifieke verwysing na die aard en funksie van skuld en skande onderneem. Daar word ‘n psigologiese en teologiese beskrywing van skuld, skande en die gevoelens wat daarmee geassosieer word, gegee. In die eerste plek is die begrip gevoelsbelewing of emosie beskryf, waarna die basiese kenmerke en funksies ondersoek is. Die gevoelsbelewing van skuld en skande is deeglik verken wat betref hul oorsprong, aard, indeling en funksie, asook hul verband en samehang. Verwerkingsmeganismes is ook verken. Hoofstuk 3 is ‘n beskrywing van die konteks, teologie en praktyk van die pastorale begeleiding van predikante tydens die tughandeling. Tugpastoraat is teologies begrens en begrond. Verder is die subjek, objek en vereistes van die tugpastoraat beskryf, asook die doel, taak, parameters en maatstawwe vir funksionaliteit, professionaliteit en effektiwiteit. Die vierde hoofstuk bevat die beskrywing van die empiriese navorsing. Die navorsingsmetodologie, gestruktureerde onderhoude en analise, tematiese analise en die vergelyking van die tematiese informasie en die teoretiese modelle is deeglik bespreek. ’n Verbeterde praktykteorie is in hoofstuk 5 beskryf. Dit volg op die hermeneutiese interaksie tussen die resultate van die empiriese ondersoek en die beskrywing van die literatuurondersoeke. Die insigte wat so bekom is, lei tot nuwe konsepte en dra by tot die herstel of aanpassing van die bestaande praktyk van die pastorale begeleiding van predikante tydens die tughandeling in die verwerking van skuld en skande. Hoofstuk 6 is ‘n algehele samevatting met bevindings en aanbevelings na aanleiding van die ondersoek. Die bevindings van die verskillende hoofstukke word beskryf en die navorsing word geëvalueer met betrekking tot die navorsingsdoelwitte. Nuwe navorsingsgeleenthede word aangetoon en die bydrae van die studie word verken. Ten slotte word daar sekere aanbevelings gemaak ten opsigte van verdere studietemas. ENGLISH: The first chapter describes the need and design for the study as it focuses on the theme with specific reference to the processing of the emotional experience of guilt and shame. The need for scientific study was explored by describing The Church Order, existing literature, the extent of the need and the process of the ecclesiastical discipline. Futhermore the research design is described by setting goals and formulating research questions, setting the boundaries for the study and the research methodology is also explained. Chapter 2 is a literary study about the nature and function of human emotion. Guilt, shame and the accompanying feelings associated, are described in psychological and theological terms. The focus is on the experience of guilt and shame. A definition of emotion or feeling is described as well as the basic characteristics and function of emotion. Guilt and shame as an emotional state is explored in depth. The two emotions are explored according to their origin, character, classification and function as well as the relationship. The third chapter describes the context, theology and practice of the pastoral guidance of ministers of the Dutch Reformed Church during ecclesiastical discipline. Pastoral care is circumscribed and defined. The subject and object of the pastoral care is described. The goal of this spesific type of pastoral care is defined as well as the parameters and criteria for functionality, professionalism and effectivity. Chapter 4 is the empirical research that followed the literature studies. The research methodology, the process of the structured interview, and the results of the research is analyzed and processed. In the fifth chapter the results of a hermeneutical interaction between the empirical research and the theoretical findings are described. The information leads to new insight and the praxis is adjusted or adapted accordingly. Chapter 6 is a general summary of the literature and empirical study. The findings of the study is discussed and evaluated according to the research goals. New research topics are recommended and the contribution of the study is discussed.
