ENGLISH ABSTRACT: ‘Ethical dilemmas’ comprise a topic broadly researched internationally in the realms of general, organisational, social, clinical and counselling psychology. In South Africa, educational psychologists’ experiences with ethical dilemmas stand as an area for exploration. This qualitative multiple case study delves into the experiences of educational psychologists in South Africa navigating ethical dilemmas. Two theoretical approaches underpin this study - social constructivism and Bronfenbrenner’s bio-ecological systems theory. Research participants were seven educational psychologists working in the field for longer than a year; they were selected via voluntary and snowball sampling. Data was collected in three stages, all through online platforms. Triangulation of the data collection methods was achieved through individual semi-structured interviews, a focus group and an open-ended questionnaire. The findings suggest that educational psychologists experience a number of pressures related to ethical decision-making in solving dilemmas from the institutional to the personal level. Physical and emotional repercussions of ethical dilemmas encountered daily were cited. The need for greater support for and acknowledgement of the complexities that ethical dilemmas bring to the profession is extensive.
