ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In this thesis the institution in ancient Israel/Palestine is studied. The following issues are discussed: 1. What is meant by the terms "city" and "urbanisation" in the ancient Near East? 2. What was the internal structure of the city in Israel/Palestine during the Iron Age IIB period? 3. Was there urbanisation during the Iron Age IIB period in Israel/Palestine? 4. What factors influenced the construction and architecture of Samaria (878-722/1 BCE)?
