Ing) -- Universiteit van Stellenbosch, 1993. The design of a 5 : 1 coaxial to waveguide L - band power combiner is discussed in this report. The 5 : 1 combiner will be used in a corporate 50 : 1 power combiner structure and must be able to handle a peak power of 50 kW. The combiner is designed for a centre frequency of 1.3 GHz and for a bandwidth of 16%. The coaxial structure suppresses the higher order wave modes which are associated with radial combiners. Various waveguide components including a waveguide load and coaxial to waveguide adapter were developed for testing the power combiner. The measured results compared well with the predicted results. The report is concluded b\1 a study of the coupling between input ports. A simplified field analysis model in which the coaxial structure was approximated by a parallel plate structure, was used . There was good comparison between the measured and calculated results.
