The optimal functioning of the Inspector (Superintendent) of Education with respect to curriculum development as component of educational leadership is being dealt with in this thesis.Because of the relative position of authoritativeness that he assumes or ought to assume in the teaching hierarchy, this official is the obvious person commanding a special educational leadership position which can fullfill a particular important liaison-, consultory- and facilitatory role. This leadership culminates in a renewed view with respect to staff development, clinical supervision and the maintainance of greater and effective teacher professionalism.The particular role that the Inspector of Education plays or ought to play with respect to curriculum development is highlighted by the literature study and special emphasis is placed upon the Inspector of Education as a reform agent. It is concluded that he has a definite role to play in every phase of curriculum development namely, design, dissemination implementation and evaluation.The empirical study places the spotlight on the Inspector of Education involvement in and attitude towards curriculum development. It also focusses on his own perception of the ideal situation. This investigation was limited to the Inspectors within the Education Department of the Administration: House of Representatives.The preponderating results which flow from this investigation show that the Inspector of Education, indeed has a significant role to play with respect to curriculum development.
