ENGLISH ABSTRACT: With this study research has been done into the current financing system which serves white agriculture in the Republic of South Africa and the extent to which this system satisfies the financing requirements of the agricultural producer. In the first place attention has been paid to the financing requirements of the agricultural producers, of the agricultural producer, as well as the cost involved. The current economic and financial position of the agricultural sector and the reasons for this situation have also been discussed. Secondly, this study describes the current sources of credit available to agriculture and also examines whether the credit facilities available through these sources meet the requirements of agricultural producers. In the third instance the study discusses guidelines and principles relevant to the affording of credit and the creation of a rational financing policy. The current system of agricultural financing has also been evaluated in terms of norms, especially designed for the evaluation of policy. The process of financial mediation in the South African agricultural financing system has also been critically evaluated. Adaptations essential to the improvement of the effectiveness of the current system have also been outlined. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Met die studie is ondersoek gedoen na die huidige finansieringstelsel wat die blanke landbou in die Republiek van Suid-Afrika bedien en tot watter mate die stelsel in die finansieringsbehoeftes van die landbouprodusent voorsien. Eerstens is in die studie gelet op die finansieringsbehoeftes van die landbouprodusent, asook die koste daaraan verbonde. Die ekonomiese en finansiële posisie van die landbousektor en die oorsake wat diè toestand tot gevolg het, is ook bespreek. Die studie behels tweedens 'n beskrywing van die huidige bronne van krediet wat tot die landbou se beskikking is en of die leningsfasiliteite wat deur diè verskillende finansiële instellings beskikbaar gestel word aan die landbouprodusent se finansieringsbehoeftes voldoen. Derdens is in die studie riglyne en beginsels bespreel wat van belang is by die verlening van krediet en vir die daarstelling van 'n rasionele finansieringsbeleid. Verder is die huidige stelsel van landboufinansiering geëvalueer in terme van norme wat spesifiek opgestel is vir die evaluering van beleid. Die proses van finansiële bemiddeling in die Suid-Afrikaanse landboufinansieringstelsel is ook krities geëvalueer. Aanpassings wat noodsaaklik is om die doeltreffendheid van die huidige stelsel te verbeter, is ook bespreek.
