ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Sastech Engineering Services (Secunda) is part of the Sasol Group of Companies. It supplies highly specialized engineering and consulting services to the other companies within the Group. The prime functions of the company include: Project Management, Consulting Services, Engineering Design, (Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Control Systems and Civil) as well as the transfer of technology. Due to the nature of Sastech's work, large amounts of information flow within the organisation, as well as to and from suppliers and clients. In the area of Project Management it is especially important that responsible persons receive accurate and timely information to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. The aim of this study is to define and understand the concepts of Information, Systems, Management and Information Systems. Furthermore, the aims, procedures, organisation structure and systems of Sastech Engineering Services are studied and documented. Lastly follows a rough design phase that aim to identify the required subsystems and develop a conceptual total system as well as a plan to implement it at Sastech. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Sastech Ingeneursdienste (Secunda) is deel van die Sasol Groep van Maatskappye. Dit voorsien hoogs gespesialiseerde ingeneurs en konsultasie dienste aan die ander maatskappye binne die Groep. Die hoof funksie van die maatskappy sluit die volgende in: Projekbestuur, Konsultasie Dienste, Ingenieurs Ontwerp (Proses, Meganies, Elektries, Beheerstelsels en Siviel) asook die oordrag van tegnologie. As gevolg van die tipe werk wat Sastech verrig, vloei daar groot hoeveelhede inligting binne die organisasie asook na en van kliënte en verskaffers. Op die gebied van Projekbestuur is dit veral belangrik dat verantwoordelike persone tydige en akkurate inligting ontvang om te verseker dat projekte op tyd en binne begroting voltooi word. Die doel van hierdie studie is om konsepte van Inligting, Stelsels, Bestuur en Inligtingstelsels te definieer en te verstaan. Verder word die doelwitte, prosedures, organisasiestruktuur en stelsels van Sastech Ingenieursdienste bestudeer en gedokumenteer. Laastens volg 'n growwe ontwerpfase wat poog om die benodigde substelsels te identifiseer en 'n totale konseptuele stelsel te ontwikkel sowel as 'n implementeringsplan vir die stelsel by Sastech.
