ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Salinity is a problem which occurs in many countries and is one of the biggest negative growth factors which plants may encounter in a natural environment. During this investigation attempts were made to identify plants which primary could be used as a cover crop and secondary as established pastures in coastal and interior saline areas. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Verbrakking is 'n probleem wat in baie lande voorkom en is een van die grootste negatiewe groeifaktore waarmee plante in 'n natuurlike omgewing te doen kan hê. In hierdie ondersoek is daar gepoog om plante te identifiseer wat primêr as bedekking en sekondêr as weidingsgewasse in verbrakte omgewings langs die kus en in die binneland gebruik kan word.
