Communication in organizations Communication in organizations -- South Africa -- Western Cape Dissertations -- Public administration Thesis (MPA) -- University of Stellenbosch, 1993. Organisational communication is the system by means of which information is transferred among the members of the organisation to achieve understanding and ensure co-ordination of the members with the ultimate purpose of enabling the organisation to function effectively and efficiently. Communication is an inherent part of organising, which is in turn one of the manager's main functions. Managers have the responsibility to ensure that information is transferred accurately and completely amongst the members of the organisation. They need to understand how communication flows within the organisation. The purpose of this study is to determine what can be done to improve the effectiveness of communication between the persons in the employ of an organisation. Extensive use is made of literature studies to clarify the basic concepts. Eskom and in particular one of its sub-units, the Western Cape Region, is used as a case study. This organisation is evaluated in terms of the acquired theoretical knowledge and suggestions are provided tor improving the effectiveness of organisational communication.
